Ecology Day

The seventh annual Ecology Day is being organized in Ste. Anne de Bellevue for Saturday, September 18th. Last year's event was a great success! It is an event that coincides with the beginning of the fall semester at John Abbott College and Macdonald Campus of McGill University, and the ongoing local farmers market on the main street in Ste. Anne on the same day. The event is generally held in the same area as the farmer's market and the lectures and film screenings are held at the Coop du Grand Orme or inside the Town Hall.

Currently on the program for the day:
- Emily McGill, for the ecological garden initiative of the MacDonald Campus of McGill University.
- Fabien Girard, from the Coopérative forestière de Girardville and developper of the boreal spices "D'Origina" will be here to divulge the secrets of the forest and how we can best use them in our cooking.
- Stéphanie Boucher, curator of the Lyman Entomological Museum of McGill Universityl, will give a presentation on beneficial and not so beneficial insects in our gardens.
More details soon...

Movie-night in the garden

Synopsis: Pirate for the Sea is a biographical film of Captain Paul Watson, the youngest founding member of Greenpeace Canada. He organized early campaigns protesting the killing of seals, whales, and dolphins. Greenpeace ejected him for being too much of an activist. Starting his own organization, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, he went on to sink illegal whaling ships, stopped Canadian seal hunts for ten years, permanently halted sealing in British Isles, killing of dolphins on Iki Island, Japan, etc. This documentary witnesses his latest campaigns and explores the personal and environmental history of this controversial marine conservationist. (note: this film contains images that could shock some people, please be advised)
